Sweeping Color Gradient Installation
Dan Tobin Smith’s sweeping color gradient installation in his London studio is a sight behold! Titled “The First Law Of Kipple”, Smith has covered his 200 square meter London Studio with objects donated by the public, ranging from matchbox-sized to chair-sized — the objects have been painstakily arranged according to their hue.
Not sure what kipple is? We weren’t either but it’s inspired by Philip K Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which science fiction fans might know better as the film Bladerunner. The book describes ‘kipple’ as all the useless, used-up or pointless stuff that we collect around ourselves.
Was playing around with my camera and some broken glass, and I captured this. (OC)

me: why this
David Yates’s most vivid memory of Emma is watching her suddenly let go of her steely professionalism and for once just be young and free. They were filming a death scene from Hallows Part 2 on a freezing-cold beach in Wales. The actors were miserable, especially Emma, who hates the cold and dislikes getting wet even more. But out of nowhere, he recalls, “she ran into the icy water and stood there, holding herself against the waves with her arms outstretched, just laughing.” In that brief moment he got a sense of what it must be like to have a multibillion-dollar industry dependent on your every move and be only nineteen years old.
